AMVR Q3FC3 Review: Finally Good for Glasses and Elite Straps

Quick verdict

AMVR fixed nearly everything that bothered me about its previous Quest 3 facial interface. The Q3FC3 has proper external knobs for glasses spacing, much smaller light leaks, a very good nose seal and enough width to distribute pressure comfortably on my face. I highly recommend it with an elite-style strap.

The important limitation is simple: this is not the interface I would choose for a halo strap. Its tall forehead section occupies the same space as the halo, reducing comfort and taking away much of the adjustment that makes a halo useful. For halo straps, look at AMVR’s shorter FC4 instead.

At the roughly $40 price when I reviewed it, the quality was good but the value was less obvious because excellent alternatives were available in the same range. If you can find it cheaper, it is an easy recommendation for elite straps.

Pros

• External knobs make a distance from eyes quick to adjust, especially when several people share the Quest
• Very comfortable with an elite-style strap
• Excellent nose seal on my face
• Small side light leaks did not bother me, even when adjusted for glasses
• Large FOV potential because the lenses can sit very close
• Works with Meta and BOBOVR charging docks without removing the nose pad
• Includes PU-leather and Ice Silk pads

Cons

• Tall forehead section is a poor match for normal halo straps
• The cooling gel made no useful temperature difference
• Roughly $40 was expensive compared with other interfaces
• Side light leakage grows at maximum glasses spacing

The knobs are the real upgrade

The old AMVR adjustment forced me to remove the headset and facial interface before changing the distance. Q3FC3 puts a stepped knob on each side, so I can change the lens-to-eye distance while fitting it. That is a day-and-night improvement when people with different faces or glasses share one Quest.

I measured about 9 mm of total travel, which is normal for this type of interface. The knobs had roughly eight or nine steps. With my medium-sized glasses and prescription inserts, I used around step three or four and still had plenty of range left. Different glasses shapes can fit completely differently, so my result is not a guarantee for every frame.

The mechanism held its position when I pushed on the installed interface. At the closest setting it can shift while I remove it, but squeezing both sides firmly before pulling solved that.

Elite straps: yes. Normal halo straps: no

The Q3FC3 extends about 32 mm over the forehead. That broad contact area distributed pressure well on my face and worked very well with an elite-style strap. It also works with the stock cloth strap, although I would normally improve the head strap before buying a replacement facial interface.

With a BOBOVR S3 Pro or other halo straps, the story changes. The facial interface and halo compete for the same area, costing comfort and adjustment range. You may physically fit them together, but I do not recommend the combination. The unusually open KIWI H4 may be an exception, although Q3FC3 still removes some of what makes that design useful.

Pads, cooling gel and measurements

AMVR includes a PU-leather pad and an Ice Silk fabric pad. Both contain what AMVR calls cooling gel. I could feel that the gel existed when touching the pad, and the fabric felt cool for the first few seconds, but it did not keep my forehead cooler. Once the small area warmed up, the heat had nowhere useful to go.

The gel also did not change comfort for me. I preferred PU leather because I play active games, sweat heavily and find it easier to keep clean.

My informal measurements were:

• Forehead projection: about 32 mm
• PU-leather pad thickness: about 16 mm
• Ice Silk pad thickness: about 18 mm
• Weight with Ice Silk: 113.2 g; the PU setup was almost the same

The pads compress, so these thickness figures are approximate rather than laboratory specifications.

FOV, vents and light leaks

On my face the lenses could sit extremely close, giving me a large field of view. They were actually close enough that I moved the interface slightly outward even without prescription inserts. FOV depends heavily on face shape, so this describes my fit rather than a universal number.

There are two vents on top and none on the sides or bottom. My Quest 3 does not normally fog, which means I cannot honestly say whether these vents solve fogging for someone who has that problem.

The nose seal was almost perfect on my nose. I found small leaks at the sides, especially with the spacing fully extended, but the flashlight test made them look far worse than normal use. I did not notice them most of the time and never felt the need to cover the interface with tape as I did with the old model. Other face shapes can leave a larger gap.

Charging-dock compatibility

A useful detail is that Q3FC3 worked with both Meta’s official Quest charging dock and the BOBOVR dock without removing the nose pad. I could place the headset on the dock normally and it charged.

Should you buy it?

Buy Q3FC3 if you use an elite-style head strap, need convenient spacing for glasses or prescription inserts, and want a broad, comfortable facial interface. It fixed the major flaws of AMVR’s older version and feels very good on my face.

Do not buy it for halo strap; choose the shorter AMVR FC4 or another halo-oriented interface. I would also look for a discount instead of automatically paying the roughly $40 review-time price. Below that price, the Q3FC3 is very easy to recommend for the setup it was designed around.
